Known around the world for his loose-aggressive style of play, poker pro Gus Hansen continues to find success in the most prestigious poker tournaments. But for the everyday player there’s no need to go from Spain to Australia to Tunica to find poker glory, it’s here at betED.com Poker.
Earlier this year Hansen ventured Down Under and took home the Aussie Millions title, earning himself $1.19 Million in the process. The summer brought more success for the Great Dane as he finished 61st in the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas. While it wasn’t a win, it was still an impressive feat considering that the field was an astounding 6,358 players. It wasn’t a seven-figure win, but the $154,194 he won is certainly a good return on his $10,000 investment.
When the poker world’s attention was focused on London this past September for the first ever WSOP event in Europe, Hansen made sure to capture headlines. Finishing 10th Hansen fell one spot short of a final table appearance, but he still managed to bring home $83,832.
Now he’s managed to find success in Spain. In the first ever World Poker Tour Spanish Championship Hansen made the final table with the chip lead. With only six players remaining Hansen had amassed just shy of one million chips and was in the driver’s seat to capture his fourth WPT title. Though he didn’t win the event he did manage a 5th place finish and for that he gets to take home $100,600.
The field for the event was nothing to be sneezed at. While only 226 players ponied up the $10,000 buy-in, those that did reads like a who’s who of poker today. Steve Billirakis, who captured his first WSOP bracelet in June, Erik Seidel, Barry Greenstein, Patrik Antonius, John Juanda, and 2007 WSOP-Europe Champion Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad were all in Barcelona for a shot at WPT glory but unable to best the effort of Hansen.
The top 10 finishers for the event:
1. Markus Lehmann – $537,000
2. Ludovic Lacay – $295,200
3. Christer Johansson – $151,000
4. Steve Sung – $117,400
5. Gus Hansen – $100,600
6. Vladimir Poleshehuk – $83,900
